Decentralisation and empowering cities and human settlements

About this event

At this event, the programme associated with the Call to action on sustainable urbanisation in the Commonwealth was launched, under the leadership of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Commonwealth Association of Architects, the Commonwealth Association of Planners, and the Commonwealth Local Government Forum, with support from The Prince’s Foundation, the Rwandan Ministry of Infrastructure, and the Rwandan Ministry of Local Government.

This event was hosted by the Commonwealth Local Government Forum and focused on empowering city/local government to ensure that cities can respond effectively to the needs of local communities. The session focused on the relationship between different spheres of government and the importance effective fiscal decentralisation and use of ICT and smart solutions to enable sustainable urbanisation.

The event attracted over 100 attendees from 26 countries.

Questions to the panel, together with expressions of support came from variety of sources, including the Young Planners Network and many others.
